Experience
I have been teaching every semester since my first year at high school, amounting to around 7 years worth of teaching experience. I have taught both younger students and my peers for many years now, and understand well the particular level that concepts and ideas need to be pitched at for different students. I am able to gauge quickly the present level of understanding of a student, and have various strategies for ensuring efficient learning. All of these center around a focus on concepts and making the student capable of actually solving problems using their own thought process. I train students to direct their thinking in a certain way, rather than shoehorn their thinking into a certain, generic style, since such methods may work for some people but not for everyone. My primary motivation for tutoring is the satisfaction I get in making people understand what they are doing. I wish more and more people to be capable at understanding analytic subjects like Mathematics and Physics, which will form the foundation for so many future applications in our world. I have a Bachelor's degree in Physics from McGill University, which offers one of the most rigorous Physics programs in Canada. I have taken advanced university courses in most areas of Physics and Mathematics, including (highest levels listed): Mathematics: Advanced Linear Algebra Partial Differential Equations Ordinary Differential Equations Calculus, upto Multivariable and Variational Calculus Advanced Fourier Analysis Complex Variables Numerical Analysis Physics: Advanced Classical Mechanics Advanced Quantum Mechanics Advanced Electromagnetic Theory Advanced Statistical Mechanics Thermodynamics Waves Signal Processing and Circuits Teaching Experience: -> As mentioned earlier, I have been teaching in some capacity since my first year in high school, from one-on-one sessions to groups of 15 people, from half hour conceptual discussions to 4 hour long exam practice sessions. -> I have been teaching assistant for courses in Honours Differential Equations and a Masters level course in Quantum Condensed Matter during my time at McGill University. -> I initiated the formation of a volunteer tutorial service run by the Pakistani Students Association. The service managed tutorial sessions before midterms and finals for a variety of university level mathematics courses, taking care of the managerial details so that tutors could concentrate on just tutoring. The proficiency of tutors was judged in practice sessions that I supervised. I also offered tutorials for the service myself.
