Sahar H.
Private tutor in Montréal, Canada
Education
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Degree: Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science, Concentration in Mathematics and Media Arts (2013) My GPA was 4.6 out of 5.0 I have been taking Math and Science classes for as long as I can remember. Each semester at MIT, about 3 out of 4 of my classes were Math & Science classes. The repetition of major ideas, basic fundamentals, and concepts has really instilled a strong foundation in these subjects for me. This helps me very much to guide my students well in their Math & Science courses. While in high school and also at MIT, I got recognition and awards for my writing and also speech. I have guided many students in their writing courses as well in writing for standardized tests. Creative writing and crafting essays is something I am personally passionate about and love to tutor.
Experience
About Me ~ I have been tutoring elementary, high school, and university students in Math, Physics, Writing, and Video Production since 2008. My tutoring experience has been through teaching, freelance tutoring, and working in various tutoring centers. My Perspective on Teaching ~ I have come to learn that the biggest gift in the journey of learning is inspiration from a wise teacher. Thus as a tutor and teacher, I have always aspired to understand my students and treat each student uniquely. Every student learns and views the world from a special lens, and I use my creativity to enter their world and teach from their point of view. I have grown to become passionate about learning and teaching. Although I went through a tough adjustment when I moved to the U.S. with my family ten years ago, I ended up graduating at the top of my class with a 3.99 GPA, high SAT scores, and got accepted into MIT. I believe that students can reach their dreams if they discover the power of their abilities. As a tutor, my roll is to empower and help students to achieve the highest academic goals imaginable for themselves. My Background ~ I come from a family that values and respects education with both my parents being educators. A day would not pass in our house without my father teaching mathematics and science at the dining room table. Meanwhile, my mother was like an entertaining teacher who taught us about the surrounding world by engaging our imagination through stories and games. Currently, my mother runs a Montessori School while also being the head teacher there. I often spend many days working with her students there who are all below 6 years old. It's very enjoyable for me to be able to tune into their world. Meanwhile, I have spent lots of time in the University environment, with my father being a professor as well. It is not a coincidence that I am currently making a documentary film about college students on the side. A Glimpse of My Experience ~ During the summer of 2012, I investigated and filmed innovative teachers across India and learned lots of pioneering ideas for teaching while I was doing that. As far as my teaching background, I have worked with kindergartners up to college students. I very much love teaching children since my imagination allows me to engage them in the basics of subjects. In the summer of 2011, I was a teachers in mathematics, science, and art for over 100 kindergarten and elementary school students at a summer school in Boston. I was also an SAT instructor for high school students in Cambridge, MA during January 2013. In terms of tutoring young adults, I have tutored high school and college physics to over 50 students at MIT and various tutoring centers, such as Sylvan. Currently, I'm tutoring students of all ages in math, physics, writing, and video production as a freelancer.

Hobbies
My biggest hobby would probably be traveling and learning about people's unique personalities and cultures. Imagination is one of my hobbies. :-) I like to imagine beautiful places and ideas. Creative storytelling with writing, film, and performance is a passion for me. I enjoy going on adventures, making new discoveries, drawing, and making art. Other than that, I love going to festivals, listening to music, staying physically active, being outside with friends and making new friends.
