I'm mostly self-taught with programming, but I've had a few mentors who really showed the importance of a good tutor, and I've learned a lot from them. They gave me a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge. I have trained journalists in coding, data journalism, and data visualization at newsrooms and at conferences. I have 10 years as a journalist, four of those coding in a newsroom. In that time I made interactive maps and charts, harvested data from websites, created special website for feature stories, and analyzed data for investigations.
