I have a CELTA certification (Cambridge English Language Teaching to Adults) which I obtained in 2016. In addition to this, I have a Language Teaching Certification from a prominent language institute which I obtained in 2010.
Experience
Since 2016 I have been teaching private and group classes in English as a second language, substitute teaching, including IELTS preparation and academic writing courses. Since 2014 I have also been working as a freelance ESL tutor which involved creating and teaching personalized courses in English as a second language, including face-to-face and Skype sessions for students from diverse backgrounds in Canada, Uruguay, and South Korea. I use immersive, conversational teaching methods to help my students achieve their learning goals, and tailor classes to their level, taking into account their unique challenges and interests. I have also previously facilitated an intensive ESL immersion camp in Montreal for teenagers from Mexico. I taught using this particular institute's own proprietary 'assertive learning' methods, focusing on fluency and technical proficiency. I have also worked at a language center in Uruguay where I provided one-on-one and group classes in English as a second language to a broad range of students, including adult beginners with little to no knowledge of the language, fluent but non-native speakers of English seeking conversation practice and advanced lessons, as well as children and teenagers. I also taught a variety of specialized language courses, including Business English, pronunciation, social situations, and a range of levels from true beginner to advanced fluency. Furthermore, I planned lessons to cater to diverse learning styles, including roleplay, conversation, games, and grammar-based exercises, all in an immersion environment, and created tests. My experience also included giving constructive feedback to students regarding their performance in courses, with suggestions for improvement as well as corrections and grades, conducting evaluations in person and by phone, to determine the level of potential students, as well as candidates for employment in other companies. I travelled regularly to other cities, to instruct classes for employees of large companies in the interior of Uruguay, as well as teaching in the institute, and visiting some students in their own homes and workplaces. I also had my classes observed by new teachers, as part of their training process. Since 2006 I have also been self-employed doing workshop facilitation and mentioning which includes the development and facilitation of both one-day workshops and multi-session classes, about Tarot, divination and symbolism, and spirituality; integrating a variety of learning approaches and participatory activities. In addition to this, I also teach large and small groups, as well as ongoing one-on-one mentoring.
