Experience

I am an aspiring academic in history. One of the major reasons I want to be an academic is because of the fulfilment I get from teaching. To this end, I have gained experience as a tutor and teaching assistant at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS), where I taught a course entitled, 'Introduction to the History of Africa' to first-year undergraduate students. My students awarded me an average of at least 4 out of 5 in every category teaching assessment at SOAS, and they nominated me for the Director's Prize for Innovative Teaching. While in the UK, I also privately tutored and proofread university students' essays and dissertations in subjects such as history, literature, and political science. I am thus well-versed in tutoring groups and individuals, depending on your needs. More specifically, I am an expert in history, exam technique, and academic writing in the humanities and social sciences. Having recently moved to Montreal and I became a permanent resident of Canada, I am now looking to continue to use my tutoring skills and to help students with their essays, dissertations, and exam preparations.

Hobbies

In my spare time I enjoy following and playing sports. Since moving to Montreal, I have made it my ambition to learn how to skate properly so that I will be able to play hockey. I live on the fringes of Ville-Marie and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve with my wife and my cat. Living in this part of town is helping me to improve my French (as are online lessons). I also play guitar, I love to cook, and I enjoy travelling and meeting new people. As I am coming to the end of my Ph.D., I have also found time to write academic journal articles and book chapters on nineteenth-century East and Central African history. I hope to have these published in the near future.
